-
Usually a full case history is taken at the start which helps to
give us an understanding of the present problem and its underlying
background.
-
This also allows us to build up an "holistic" picture, looking not
only at the symptoms, but also at the individual’s lifestyle etc. so
that we can understand why the problem has arisen.
-
The Osteopath then carries out a thorough examination of your body
in order to make an evaluation of your physical condition.
-
We
will look at your body, assess your posture and observe how your
spine and other joints move.
-
The Osteopath will then discuss his or her findings with you.
-
All of this information is important to ensure that there are no
contra-indications to osteopathic treatment.
-
If
it is appropriate, you will have an osteopathic treatment on your
first visit.
-
Initially the Osteopath applies the General Osteopathic Treatment
(GOT) which consists of gentle, rhythmic articulation of all the
joints.
-
This helps to bring relaxation, routine and rhythm back into the
body’s musculo-skeletal and nervous system.
-
Specific osteopathic and manipulative techniques with massage are
also incorporated to suit the individual patient's needs.
-
Where the situation arises, a more subtle approach known as cranial
and functional technique is incorporated to aid in the relief of
symptoms.
