What is Osteopathy
-
Throughout life a gradual build-up of tensions or sudden trauma can
contribute to a breakdown in our posture and thus affect our ability
to function normally. This may result in symptoms of backache,
joint or muscular pain, ‘trapped nerves’, headaches, tiredness, to
name but a few.
-
Osteopathy
is an
established and
recognised
therapeutic approach
which deals with these conditions. We apply the method of body work
which is a form of soft tissue and joint articulation and mobilisation. Through these and other osteopathic techniques,
joints are mobilised, muscle tension relieved, with blood and nerve
supply to tissues enhanced. Also the body’s own healing mechanisms
are facilitated and its capacity for compensation improved.
-
Other modalities commonly used by an Osteopath in conjunction with
body work are exercise, nutrition, electro-therapy and hydrotherapy.
-
An Osteopath deals with the
cause of the problem
as well as treating the symptoms. We also aim to educate the
individual about their own body and help them to prevent further
recurrence of their condition.
